Placement videos x3
There are several placement opportunities available to students in the Department of Materials. Placements are organised independently by students.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme is a research opportunities programme available to students from within and outside Imperial (subject to eligibility). During a UROP, students can participate in real research and begin to appreciate the environment in which it takes place.
Students consider the potential of UROP at different stages in their educational lifecycle, and students can have varying motivations behind undertaking a UROP.
More information about the UROP can be found on the College website.

Industry Placements
An Industrial Placement is a work experience opportunity that is assessed and accredited towards your Imperial degree classification. Often referred to as a ‘year in industry’ or ‘commercial placement’, industrial placements are an opportunity for you to put into practice your academic skills and knowledge within a professional setting.
Many students opt to undertake work placements in the industry to gain practical experience, and our students have completed industry placements with companies including Rolls-Royce and Airbus.
These placements are organised independently by students. More information about these placements can be found on the Careers Service website.

Imperial–MIT student exchange
Every year a small number of students are selected for a semester's exchange at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The MIT exchange programme is open to MEng students in their fourth year of study. The places are limited and allocated on a competitive basis. The Department also funds 4 IROPs to MIT for third-year MEng students.
More information about the Imperial-MIT student exchange can be found on the college website.
